Challenge: A major aerospace supplier began producing many of its components through "machined from stock" in addition to forged and machined processes. The supplier determined wrought alloy properties were needed for the strength and fatigue requirements of its aircraft applications.
Solution: Stork Kelch worked closely with design engineers, both at the customer and our supplier, to develop cast designs which would take advantage of the design flexibility of the cast process and still meet or exceed all application strength and fatigue requirements.
Today, most all of these previous "wrought" designs are made utilizing investment casting technology. The customer is now going another step forward with new designs to eliminate weight and/or combine multiple parts into one casting, while retaining functional characteristics.
