Challenge: An international vacuum cleaner manufacturer was set to introduce it first major redesigned product in several years. Start of production was only 6 months away when the customer determined that a part designed as a die casting could not meet the minimum functional specifications. The customer needed a quick redesign and/or process change for the part and still not delay the new redesigned product launch.
Solution: Stork Kelch evaluated the part and design requirements and recommends switching to the Thixo-Forming process to manufacture the part. By quickly educating the customer on the advantages of thixo-forming, it's determined that using the thixo process may be the only economical way the customer can still meet the original start up timing. Stork kelch then helps expedite the efforts of design, tooling, project and manufacturing teams from both the supplier and customer to produce a superior part, in the time required. The completed part passes all functional specifications, meets the customers budget requirements, and allows the customer to meet the original SOP timing.
