Dental Instrument Manufacturer

Stork Kelch assists leading dental instrument company to move parts from concept sketches to fully dimensioned drawings, high volume production and ability to produce multiple instrument models from one casting blank.

Challenge: A leading dental instrument manufacturer in Stork Kelch’s territory acquired a competitor. During the acquisition process it was determined that the cast parts were not up to spec, had no production drawings and did not mesh with the companies machining and assembly cell. The largest issue with the parts were that they were cracking at assembly causing the parts to fail after most of the value added cost was included.

Solution: Stork Kelch first worked with design engineers at their investment casting supplier to design the part and material so it can be used on the new machining and assembly cells. Stork Kelch also spear headed a cross functional team consisting of investment casting quality engineers and the customer’s manufacturing engineers to determine the root cause for part cracking. Both tooling and assembly cells were modified and parts were supplied to maintain production during the transition and modification phases.
